
Arnold O’Day “Arnie” Cerio, 79, died Sunday evening, April 13, 2025 at Oneida Extended Care where he had been a patient for the past week.
Born in Canastota, on July 28, 1945, he was the son of Michael and Marian Carman Cerio. Growing up and being educated in Canastota, Arnie worked in the family business, Cerio’s Modern Market. In the early 80’s he opened Arnie & Son Produce Center in Sherrill, NY until his retirement in 2024. Arnie took great pride in serving his friends and neighbors. Many will remember him not only for the quality of the produce but for the beautiful plants and flowers he lovingly grew – each one a reflection of his dedication and care. In his sparse free time, Arnie enjoyed his friends and times at Grindstone Island.
Surviving are his daughters, Christine Mahar and husband Greg of Canastota; Shelly Cerio and husband Greg Kall of Los Gatos, CA; son, Tim Cerio and Amy Able of Kirkville; six grandchildren Cassandra Bielby, Seth Mahar, Meredith Eddy, Megan Wettlaufer, Kyle Mahar, Gage Wettlaufer; four great-grandchildren DJ Eddy, Lynnsey Cerio, Lola Eddy, Zane Eddy; brother, Carman (Mary Lou) of Dunedin, Florida; and companion, Cindy Lindauer of Oneida.
He was predeceased by his son Daniel, parents, brother Mike, sisters Evelyn Fiore, Delores Combs and Rosalie Massey.
Graveside services will be held at the family burial plot on Grindstone Island, on the St. Lawrence River, on Sunday, May 4, at Grindstone Island Cemetery at 1:00 PM.

Great neighbor and friend on Grindstone island. He always remembered our Anniversary on July 27 next day being his birthday. Celebrated with a great bottle of wine. Our daughter in law has taken over our camp so hope his kids will keep his going for generations and enjoy all good memories!
