Jamie H. Markanich, 43, of Clayton, NY, passed away suddenly in the emergency room at River Hospital after being stricken at his sister’s home, surrounded by family.
Born in Watertown, NY, on March 25, 1983, he was the son of Joanne Radley and Randy Markanich.
Jamie graduated from Thousand Islands High School in 2001, completing his studies through the BOCES program. He went on to work for Rusty Johnson Masonry for 27 years, where he was known as one of the hardest‑working men on his crew. His dedication, strength, and reliability earned him deep respect from everyone who worked alongside him.
He is survived by his mother, Joanne (Peter) Radley of Clayton; his father, Randy (Debbie) Markanich of Ashville, North Carolina; his brother, Jason (Amber) Markanich of Omar; and his sister, Jessica (Tyler) LaShomb of LaFargeville, along with their children, Tristen and Nevaeh. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Davis and her husband, Carlos Mosley, and their children, Ashley and Austin.
Jamie was part of a large, blended family, all of whom he loved as his own. He is additionally survived by his brother, Joseph (Katie) Radley of Churchville, NY, and their children, Cameron, Colin, and Carter; and by his sister, Amy (Richard) Hanson of Dexter, NY, and their children, Lindsay and Benjamin.
He was predeceased by his uncle, John Recor; his maternal grandparents, Voigt and Joan Recor; and his paternal grandparents, John Markanich and Helen Collette.
Jamie was one of the most giving people you could ever meet. He often expressed his love through fixing, building, or creating — always using his hands and his heart to help others. He loved reading and writing, watching movies, and spending time with his family. Jamie was dedicated, stubborn in the best way, and above all a kind son, uncle, and brother. He was truly one of a kind.
A special thank‑you to EMT Natalie Waterman, his niece Nevaeh LaShomb, and the entire TIERS team for their care, dedication, and steady hands when they were needed most. Your compassion made all the difference.
Those who knew Jamie will carry his kindness, his strength, and his generous heart with them always.
Burial will be Wednesday, June 24, at 10:30, at Grove Cemetery in LaFargeville. A Celebration of Life will be held at the C-Way Restaurant in Clayton, from 12-4pm, following the burial.
