Dawn M. Hutchinson, 74, of Alexandria Bay, NY and Crescent City, FL passed away peacefully on August 8th at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, surrounded by her loving family.
Dawn was born on March 5, 1951 in Utica, NY to Ethel Acker and Arthur Bennett. On July 11, 1970 she married the love of her life, Richard Hutchinson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rochester, NY. They were married for 53 years, until his passing in 2023. Following classes at the Rochester Institute of Technology she worked as a laboratory technician at Highland Hospital. After the birth of her children, she focused on being a stay-at-home mother while continuing to manage the finances for R.D. Hutchinson Inc.
She moved to Alexandria Bay in 2000 upon Richard’s retirement and could be found with family and friends on the St. Lawrence River and winters in Crescent City, FL. Her Christian faith was the framework for her life and guided her in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Those close to her were often comforted by her compassionate and caring nature and admired her ability to see the good in everyone. She found peace in gardening and exploring her lifelong love for reading. She could often be found enjoying school functions and sporting events for her children and grandchildren. She cherished the memories made on trips with family and friends, where laughter and love were always abundant.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard Hutchinson and is survived by her son Andrew (Betsy) Hutchinson of Clayton, NY; and daughter Elizabeth (Matthew) Blair of Camillus, NY; three grandchildren Kolton, Ruby, and Ellie; her beloved dog Mach; and many amazing friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Northern Flow Vineyards at Deluke’s Garden Center 40635 NY-12, Clayton, NY 13624 on Saturday September 20, 2025 from 1-4 pm.
Donations in Dawn’s memory can be made to Jefferson County SPCA 25056 Water Street Watertown, NY 13601 or South Putnam Church 284 Union Ave, Crescent City, FL 32112.
