The funeral for Helen E. Goodfriend, age 86, will be at 3pm, Saturday at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton, with the Deacon Bernard Slate officiating. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Wellesley Island. Calling hours will be from 1pm until the time at the service.
Helen was born, February 26, 1928, on Wellesley Island, the daughter of Edward and Mabel Slate. She graduated from LaFargeville High School in 1946. She then went on to graduate from Canton ATC.
On December 25, 1952, she married Michael Goodfriend at All Saints Catholic Church in Chaumont.
She was an assistant engineer for 30 years, for Coil Craft, designing prototypes of transistors and electrical components. After retiring in 2003, she and her husband returned to Wellesley Island.
Helen enjoyed doing puzzles, cooking, country and western music, and German Shepard dogs.
Surviving besides her husband Michael is one daughter, Patty Goodfriend of Wellesley Island; grandchildren, Sarah Chapa and Michael Chavez; one sister, Jenny Sampson of Dexter; one brother, Lawrence Slate of Philadelphia, NY; nieces and nephews.
Donations can be made in her name to Riverside Cemetery, Wellesley Island or to the Wellesley Island Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
