Mrs. Wava J. Holloway, 87, died Friday, May 24th, at the Samaritan Medical Center where she had been a patient for a few days. There will be no calling hours or funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Wava was born Christmas Day, 1931, on Grindstone Island, the daughter of Francis and Florence (Sis) Garnsey Lashomb. She attended both the Upper and Lower schools on Grindstone Island.
On October 29th, 1950, she married William (Bill) Holloway, at the Clayton Baptist Church. Bill passed away August 22nd, 2006 in Clayton at age 79.
Wava worked as an Aide at the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center in Watertown, retiring at age 62.
She enjoyed baking.
Surviving are her two children, Billie (Ralph) Downey, and Roland (Christine) Holloway, both of Clayton; three grandchildren, Matthew Holloway, Alexis (Nick) Crowe, and Jonathan (Cherie) Downey; a great grandson, Hunter Downey; four brothers, Robert (Audrey) Lashomb, Stub (Karen) Lashomb, Skip Matthews, and George (Wendy) Matthews, all of Clayton; nieces and nephews.
One grandson, Jamie Downey, died April 8th, 2019.
