Mrs. Jean A. Lindsey, 94, a longtime resident of Wellesley Island, died Saturday, December 12th, at Summit Village in Watertown, where she resided for the past few years.
A service will be held next summer on Wellesley Island at a time to be announced. Also, a burial will be in Riverside Cemetery on Wellesley Island at a time to be announced.
Jean was born May 23rd, 1926, in Philadelphia, N.Y., the daughter of Paul and Hazel Porter Houghton. She attended LaFargeville and Clayton Schools and graduated from Brownville High School.
On April 26th, 1947, she married Charles “Doug” Lindsey at Fineview Methodist Church on Wellesley Island with Reverend Baker officiating. Doug died in September of 2007 at age 84.
Jean was self-employed for many years as a beautician on Wellesley Island, T.I. Park and Fineview.
She enjoyed church, where she was a volunteer at Fineview Methodist Church. She was a past Matron of Eastern Star. She also enjoyed working with the Brownies and Girl Scout organizations. Sewing was her passion.
Surviving is one son, Doug (Lynne) of Eel Bay and Florida; two daughters, Carol (Jim) Barton of Clayton, and Sally (Paul) Hartman of Wellesley Island; a nephew Jack Lindsey, that they raised, from Florida; 9 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Doug, her brother Bill and his wife Thelma Houghton, a daughter, Susan Higginbatham, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lindsey, who passed on March 19th, 2019, died before her.
