The Graveside Commital Service for Mrs. Arlene Long, will be held at Noon on Saturday, June 8th at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Arlene passed away on November 24th, 2023. Arrangements are with T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton
Mrs. Arlene H. Long, 90, died Friday, November 24, at her residence. There will be a Graveside Committal next Spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clayton.
Arlene was born June 29, 1933, in the Bronx, the daughter of John and Wilma Welsh. She graduated from Rockefeller High School on Long Island.
On August 15, 1953, she married Eugene Long in Rockville Center, New York. Mr. Long, former Athletic Director at Hamilton College, passed away November 18, 2022, at age 93.
She loved her family. She enjoyed reading the newspaper and was an avid reader of autobiographies and biographies. She enjoyed taking care of the family finances and invested wisely in real estate. She was independent in nature and encouraged that quality in her daughters. She loved traveling with her husband and her adored brother and his wife.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Karen (Peter) Roden, of Clayton, and Mrs. Nancy Heitzman (Tom)of Eaton, New York; her son-in-law Michael Prestegord, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother Jay and his wife Rae Welsh of Los Angeles, California; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she is predeceased by her daughter, Christina Prestegord.

I was introduced to Gene and Arlene in the early ’70s, working in upstate New York. Those days are remembered today and although I haven’t had contact with them over the years, the experience with them remained with me since then. Values and humor interjected in the work experience were truly lessons well learned.
