Mrs. Joan Marie Recor, 83, passed away Friday, December 26, at home with all her children around her. She was under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County for a few days.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 31, from 1-4pm, followed by a short service with Lay Reader, Dan Timmerman officiating, at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton. Spring burial will be held at Grove Cemetery in LaFargeville.
Our firecracker was born July 4, 1942, in Alexandria Bay, the daughter of Walter and Mary Rae Perry.
She married Voigt W. Recor on March 5, 1960, in Alexandria Bay with Reverend Floyd Little officiating.
Together, they bought a farm in LaFargeville in 1966 where all the seven children grew up running the ridge. Along with many other children and relatives who all have a story about our home.
Joan was a mom first and foremost. She worked many places in the area in the summertime as a waitress, including the Argonne Inn in Alexandria Bay. Starting in 1977, she began her career at Yazell’s Dairy Bar, retiring in 1993 where she worked at the Guzzle at T.I. Park.
She loved bowling, shopping, fishing, going out in the boat with her family, and camping at their river property. She really loved crocheting and was known around as a crocheting queen. She also loved going to church and singing and dancing.
Surviving are six children, Joanne (Peter) Radley, Jane (Robert) Heyman, Julie (Jay) Knapp, all of Clayton, Jennifer (Michael) LaClair of LaFargeville, Joseph (Virginia) Recor and Jeff (Jonalyn) Recor, both of Theresa; twenty grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; one brother, Walter Perry Sr. of LaFargeville; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband Voigt, who passed away in 2022, she is predeceased by a son John, in 2000, and one sister, Norma Adams.
We would like to give a special thanks to Mom’s caregivers who gave unconditional love and care, Cassie, Kayla, and Tammy.
Donations can be made in her name to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, N.Y. 13601, or the Jefferson County Office of the Aging (Respite Haven), at the River Community Church.
Arrangements are with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.

It was with sadness that we learned of Joan’s passing. We didn’t know her as well as we knew Voight (a real great guy), but she was always so friendly when we met her out and around. What a hard working lady to raise seven kids on a farm and work outside the home! How happy she must be to be with Voigt and John again. May cherished memories help all thru this sad time.

To all in the large Recor family. So sorry for your loss. It always warmed my heart to see so many of you attend the Omar- Fishers Landing church with your mother. Joan always had a smile and warm greeting for us all. I enjoyed standing near her in the choir, all of our voices blending in praise to God.
May you find peace in the days ahead remembering all the good times you had together.
