James E. Dano, 72, of Allen Road, died Saturday, April 6, at Rome Memorial Hospital.
Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at T.R. Jetty Funeral Home, Clayton, with the funeral to follow at 4 p.m.
Born July 22, 1940, in Clayton, the son of Ellsworth and Thelma Docteur Dano, he graduated from Cape Vincent High School and Jefferson Community College.
He served in the Air Force from 1959 to 1960.
He married the former Adelaid Kalk on July 22, 1962, at the Clayton Methodist Church.
Jim worked for a time for the United States Army Map Service as a map drawer.
He also volunteered as an ambulance driver and EMT at Dexter Volunteer Fire Department, where he was also a member.
He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and doing crafts.
Surviving besides his wife are five sons, Steven and Ronald, Watertown, Michael (Colleen), Depauville, Edward, Missouri and James (Susan), Middletown; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother Thelma, Clayton; four sisters, Darlene Barbrow, Theresa, Marla Piper, Jamestown, Billie, Florida, and Sue (Joe) Shaw, Syracuse; a sister-in-law, Sandra Dano, Clayton; nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Wayne and Nelson, both died before him.
