Frank “Spike” Phelps passed peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born February 28, 1935 on Combs Road in Brownville to Frank Benjamin and Myrtle (Durant) Phelps, Frank graduated in 1951 from Theresa High School. He was married to his sweetheart, Theresa Pridell, in Antwerp, New York on July 24, 1954.
Frank worked as a truck driver for WT Burns Motor Express, and as a heavy equipment operator for the NYS Dept. of Transportation until his retirement in 1992.
Frank is survived by his wife, Theresa, three children: Geneva Phelps Miller, Clayton, NY; Jane Phelps, Watertown, NY; and Tom and Wanda Phelps, Clayton, NY; five grandchildren (Christopher and Daniel Miller, Matthew Phelps, Erycka and Kerstin Phelps) and one great-granddaughter (Madison Miller). His parents, three sisters and two brothers predeceased him.
At Frank’s request, there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service and burial will be held at Calcium Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Donations in Frank’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Spike will be sadly missed by his friends and family, who were his greatest joy.
