Mrs. Mary J. Walts, age 92, formally of Clayton, died Saturday, January 10th, at Samaritan Medical Center. There will be a Spring graveside committal service at Omar Cemetery at a date and time to be announced. There will be no calling hours.
Mary was born, April 15, 1922, in Watertown, the daughter of Julius and Anna Smith Doroha. She graduated from LaFargeville High School.
On September 13, 1941, she married Kenneth Walts at St. John’s Rectory in LaFargeville with Father Arthur M. Viau officiating. The couple owned and operated Birch Haven Campgrounds from 1964-1981.
Mary worked for many years as an office secretary at Syracuse Supply Company.
Her husband Ken died April 17, 2005.
After their retirement, they moved to Ocala, Florida, returning to the North Country in the mid 2000’s.
Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth Vaati and Anna Bearup; nieces and nephews.
Four brothers and sisters died before her; Steven (Peter) Doroha, Julius Doroha, Catherine Fowler, and Margaret Aubin.
