The funeral for Mrs. Elaine M. VanAlstyne, age 70, who died Tuesday, May 16th at the Samaritan Keep Home, will be at 2pm on Sunday, May 21st, at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton, with Reverend Don Briant officiating. Calling hours will be from Noon until the time of the service.
Elaine was born Nov. 26th, 1946, the daughter of Delos and Ruth Lee Hagen and later was adopted by George Doner.
She graduated from Clayton High School. In the 1960’s, Elaine was Secretary and Treasurer of Diamond R. Riding Club.
Elaine had a great love of horses, horseback riding, and partook in several horse show competitions. She enjoyed bingo, NASCAR, and was an Elvis Presley enthusiast.
On April 17th, 1965, she married Eugene VanAlstyne at the Depauville Methodist Church.
In her earlier years she worked for a time in the kitchen at the Thousand Islands Club on Wellesley Island and later at the Century Warehouse on West Main Street in Watertown. Elaine’s last job was caregiver for Mrs. Fred Gailey of LaFargeville.
Surviving besides her husband, are two sons and their wives, Scott (Terri) of LaFargeville, and Michael (Deena) of Clayton; four grandchildren, Joshua VanAlstyne, Jessica Gould, Caleb and Ty VanAlstyne; three sisters, Barbara Eaton of Tennessee, Kathy Pierce of California, and Mrs. Bruce (Gail) Herbest of Maine; an Aunt, Mrs. Thomas (Nellie) VanNess; a sister-in-law, Sharon Connell of Clayton; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is pre-deceased by her Uncle Thomas VanNess, a nephew James Connell, and her brother-in-law, Dennis Connell.
Donations can be made in her name to T.I.E.R.S., P.O. Box 524, Clayton, N.Y. 13624. The family would like to thank the personal of T.I.E.R.S. for their service and much needed help over the years.
