Mrs. Mary Ellen Rogers, 87, of East Line Road, died Saturday, Jan. 13th, at her residence, where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, January 17th, at The Agape House, the former LaFargeville Methodist Church, with Pastor Donna Fitchette officiating. A Spring Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Mary Ellen was born on February 13th, 1930, in Syracuse, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy Soule. She graduated from Central High School in Syracuse at the top of a class of 600 students.
She married George C. Rogers on March 31st, 1950 in Central Square. The newly married couple moved to the family farm in Clayton to begin their life together and raise a family. Mr. Rogers died September 10th, 1986, at age 59.
Mary Ellen was a wife and mother first and foremost, finding her greatest joy in being around her children and grandchildren. As the children got older she worked for eight years as a waitress at the C-Way Restaurant, and then at Graphic Controls from 1974 until retiring in 1992. She also loved to read, a passion that developed as a young girl, spending entire days at the Syracuse Library. In her later years, sitting on her back porch watching nature was something that brought her great solace.
Surviving are six children, Mike (Debbie) and Ken (Lorraine), both of Clayton, Lonnie (Kim) of Pillar Point, Patricia LeConey and her companion Joe Favret of Clayton, Marcia and her companion Shannon Simmons of Clayton, and Barbara (Dean) Morrow of LaFargeville; 18 grandchildren; 21 Great Grandchildren; a son-in-law, Dennis Bitteker; two brothers, Edward Coyea of Syracuse, and Howard Lowe of California; nieces and nephews.
One daughter Linda Bitteker, and one brother Gene Lowe, died before her.
Donations can be made in her name to the Omar United Methodist Church, Rt. 180 or the Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham Street Rd., Watertown, N.Y. 13601.

Whithey and the entire Rogers Family, I was going home today and saw all the car’s at Mrs. Rogers, a wonderful women for many years I only knew as Grandma Rogers. When I asked someone why all the cars and trucks were there, I was told Mrs. Rogers had died. I was in shock, for I had just saw her at the Dr. Office last week, the picture of health and as usual not a hair out of place and a wide smile. I want your whole family to know I know how heart broke you feel, when we are young we think that our parents will never die, but when the time comes, know matter how old we are it is the deepest pain one can feel! My deepest heartfelt sympathy to each and every family member! I am so deeply sorry for the loss of a wonderful women! Just one last word, her flesh My be gone but she will live in your heart forever!
