Mr. Stanley W. Matthews, 82, died Wednesday, November 25th, at the Pontiac Nursing Home in Oswego where he resided for over the last three years.
There will be a Graveside Committal Service in late Spring 2021, at the Grindstone Island Cemetery. Arrangements are with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.
Stan was born January 7th, 1938, in Clayton, the son of Perl and Rhoda Jackson Matthews. He attended Clayton Schools.
He joined the United States Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1963. While in, he served overseas for over a year and a half.
Stan was self-employed as a dock builder for various river and island residents.
He was a member of the American Legion Colon Couch Post 821 in Clayton.
Stan enjoyed cooking, and mostly enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors with various projects around their homes.
Surviving is his sister-in-law, Christine Matthews of Clayton; nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Clara Carnegie, and Carol Brown, as well as four brothers, Dick, Gary, James and Gene, all predeceased him.

Funny thing I was just thinking of him the other day, Stan was a good man, I remember the first time I went to Grindstone on a snowmobile all Gary’s kids and Stan and me. There could have been more but thats what I remember. Rest in Peace Stan.
