The day the phone calls stopped!
Oh Gary my friend, who will call me now? For years you would call me almost every morning and we would visit for a few minutes or thereabouts catching up on this, that and the other thing. Those calls were so much a part of my life. We used to kid one another about how many of our conversations didn’t make much sense and that we should be thankful they weren’t being recorded. We sure spent quite a bit of time jerking one another’s chain, didn’t we? I always thought of you as Cape Vincent’s own Bob Newhart.
Thank you Ellen for bringing Gary into our lives those many years ago and for all of the memories we will always hold near and dear; our shopping trip to Fleet Feet, the camping trips and a the trips we made with the two of you to Unity Acres and our Friday morning breakfast gatherings, just to mention a few.
Ellen, Mark, Jean, Mary, Laurie, Chrissie (hope I spelled those names right), there is nothing we can say or do that hasn’t already been said or done so all we can do is send our heart felt hugs to all of you.
Ellen, you have been a part of our family for almost 40 years and our front door is always open.
I lost my dear friend Gary the day the phone calls stopped.
God speed my friend, God speed!

Gary was the very first person I met when we moved to the Cape. His ramblings were interesting but even more so, fun. As he said, shaking his head, and with that crooked smile on his face, “Don’t believe a word I say.” Gary will be missed here in our neighborhood.

I remember when Gary came to the Cape. I worked at the Exxon station and would service and wash and wax the hurst/ambulance, when needed. Remember stories Gary would tell of people needing an ambulance and he would show up with the blue Cadillac hurst/ambulance, not always a good laugh. Wendy remembers going snowmobiling with Gary back when there were no trails, you made your own. I
Wendy and I were shocked to hear of his passing and send our condolences to Ellen and his family.

Gary you never got to bring those ladies over to my stables to pet my horses!!! Every time I would see you, you would mention it and were so excited to be able to do it for them, but we never connected. I would say “ANYTIME Gary” but he would say, “It’s hard to round them all up at the same time!” You were always a jokester, a great guy and would help anyone. Cape Vincent has lost yet another upstanding citizen that was very involved with the community!! My sincere sympathy to Ellen and his extended family. RIP Gary!! Your work here on Earth is through, Go rest high on that mountain and go create some laughter up in Heaven!!

Some of my better days at Agape House were talking to Gary about missions, he lived missions, thought it, talked it, and worked it on a continual basis…He continually pulled me aside and talked about how he went about the community gathering free canned goods from major grocery stores, filling his truck, even purchasing goods with his own money and drove to a church roughly an hour away that was housing people whom were the recipients of his efforts…The Pastor during that time, Don Bryant, was a major supporter of missions and during his tour of duty that’s what Agape House was, an outlet of money and groceries to the needy, and Gary King was a major contributor…I’m glad I had the opportunity of meeting with Gary, even traveling to the destination with him and partaking of the joy he walked in…Hats off to you Gary King, one to be emulated…

My sincere thoughts and prayers for Ellen and Gary’s entire family he loved so much. This has been very hard for me to write as I will truly miss our talks and listening to his stories. Gary was an amazing individual and always had a great life experience to share. I will truly miss his calls of advice or just to ask me if I am awake or in Alaska. Well Gary I am going to Alaska in a couple of weeks and hope you are flying with me, as I will be sharing a conversation with you hoping to get there and back safely lol. A friend and board member that will truly be missed every day. Enjoy your peace my friend!
