Mrs. Janet L. Pierce, 84, passed away Saturday, July 12th, at her residence. There will be a graveside at 11am, Friday, July 18th, at St. Lawrence Union Cemetery in the Town of Cape Vincent. A reception will be held after the service at the C-Way Restaurant for family and friends.
Janet was born January 16th, 1941, in Watertown, the daughter of Merritt and Leona Goodale Tallman Sr. She graduated from Sackets Harbor High School.
On August 30th, 1959, she married Donald Pierce at Christ Episcopal Church in Sackets Harbor with Rector Fred Tiffany officiating. Don passed away September 15th, 2013, at age 77.
Janet worked at Woolworth’s in Watertown, and retired August 15th, 2000, from Thousand Islands High School, where she worked in the cafeteria.
She was a past member of the Eastern Star Mexico, N.Y. and the Women’s Bowling League in Clayton.
Janet enjoyed sewing, decorating cakes, doing puzzle books, playing Bingo at the Clayton Paynter Senior Building, baking, gardening, and especially being with her grandchildren.
Surviving is one son, Robert (Bob) of Clayton; two daughters and their husbands, Amy (Paul) Garceau of LaFargeville, and Karen (Tim) Doney of Clayton; four grandchildren, Erin (Patrick) McCarron and Ian Doney (Jake Newvine), Christopher and Melissa (Ryan) Briere; great grandchildren, Brendan, Aiden, Jayden, Kierstyn, Boone, and Dexter; one sister, Cheryl Murphy of Fulton; one brother, Merritt F. Tallman Jr., Texas; nieces and nephews.
One sister, Lurlene Mae died in infancy.
A special thank you to caregiver Tammy Denner for taking such good care of her.
