
Mrs. Joan M. Black, 86, passed away on March 24, at Summit Village in Watertown, where she resided.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 11am until 1pm at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton. A Funeral Service will follow at 1pm with Reverend Dean Morrow officiating. A burial will be held in Grove Cemetery in LaFargeville following the service, followed by a reception at the Depauville Social Hall.
Joan was born May 14, 1939, in Watertown, the daughter of Orrin and Mildred Brown Walts. She graduated from Theresa High School and Watertown School of Commerce.
On June 11, 1960, she married John Black at the Theresa Methodist Church with Reverend Claude Corbett officiating. John retired as the Town of Orleans Highway Superintendent. He passed away in December of 2006 at age 71.
Joan retired as a secretary at Crowley Foods after 42 years of service. She then worked for 10 years at Boldt Castle.
She was a former member of the Easter Star Lodge 343 of Black River. She enjoyed going to the Can-Am Speedway races and watching Nascar, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and various other crafts. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving is her daughter and her husband, Cindy (Brian) Reome of LaFargeville; two grandsons, Josh (Haley) and Nate (Maria); one great-granddaughter, Sophia; one great-grandson Chase; Four sisters in law, Carol Black, Cindy Black, Pam Black and Ruth Walts; a brother-in-law, Gary (Sue) Black; and nieces and nephews.
Joan is predeceased by her brother James Walts, and two sisters, Janice Geng, and Judy Fitchette. Another sister died in infancy.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made in her name to Grove Cemetery, PO Box 199, LaFargeville 13656.
The family would like to thank the outstanding care that was given to their mother on the first floor Skilled Nursing at Summit Village.

Heaven has accepted another angel. O got to know Joan as a member of Eastern Star, then I had the privilege of working with her at Boldt Castle. She loved her family and I know she will be missed. RIP sweet lady.
