
Mrs. Arletha I. Hays, 93, passed away, Tuesday, June 2, at her residence. Calling hours will be June 6 from 10am until Noon, followed by a funeral service. Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery.
Arletha was born August 20, 1932, in Copenhagen, New York, the daughter of Ernest and Geneva Fox Monroe. She attended Copenhagen Schools.
On December 31, 1949, she married Richard (Dick) Hays in Copenhagen. Dick passed away March 25, 2000, at age 69.
Aletha worked at Crowley’s in LaFargeville for 26 years, from 1969 – 1995.
She enjoyed gardening, dancing, and especially spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Surviving are three sons, Richard E. (Mary), Mark A. (Shawn) of Clayton, and Jerry (Terry) of Oswego; four daughters, Dayle Porter of Clayton, Leanne of Depauville, Marla J. (Brian) Norfolk of Clayton, and Margo (George) Shepard of Henderson; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; three brothers, Darrell (Sharon) Monroe of Martinsburg, Albert (Connie), and David (Brenda) both of Oswego; nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by one daughter, Susan, who passed away at 15 months old in 1960, two sisters, Mary Corrigan, and Linda Castor, one brother Ernest Monroe, and two son-in-laws, William (Bill) Evans of Depauville and Gerald Porter of Clayton.
